One afternoon, after eating sweet blod red cherries and scrumptious peaches at the outdoors fruit- and vegetable market Hala Targowa, my shopping crazy sisters decided to go to a mall near by. Instead of joining them I went for a long walk in the city for a couple of hours. All alone, and it was totally perfect. I thrive on some alone time, and I took the opportunity to get completely lost in the city, only my Nikon and I. I walked and walked and walked and sometimes realized I had been going in circles, probably from me looking up all the time at the amazing architecture. Most of these pics are from those few hours, and the rest of them will be posted in my next (and final) part of the analog projec, Gdansk edition.
seeing this particular roll of film I realize that I just might have a thing for windows and doors. The weather this week was amazing, and my very first magnificent taste of real summer. Spring in Norway can be a harsh and depressing experience, so skirts, open shoes and shoulders burnt to a crisp from the burning sun was just perfect.
city kept me looking up up up! So much amaze. I love the nostalgic feel of film photography. These photos are 100 % untouched, straight from the film. Except for the correction of the horizon on the white/green window pic. My OCD got me real hard and I JUST CAN´T STAND horizons that are off.
We ate a fancy stake dinner at the restaurant just outside the St. Mary´s church, followed by a shot of plum liquor on the house for dessert. Eating and drinking is half the fun when traveling, am I right? Chin-chin!
The hot sun called for lots and lots of sit-downs at local cafés for cool drinks and re-hydration. Some of our favorites were Kahlua-Oreo-milkshakes, alle the mojitos and the ginger sailor.
That´s it for part two!
So I keep going back and forth about whether I should be doing these blog posts about my analog project in english or not. I know from my statistics that a bunch of my readers surf in from countries that are less than likely to be speaking norwegian (HEY YOU GUYS!) , which inspires me to write in my mother tongue. Therefore, english it is (at least for this time, heh).
For my dads birthday this year, le familia all chipped in and spent five days together in Gdansk . It´s been ages since we all went on a trip together, and Poland was so lovely and warm and beautiful for us that week. I decided to go all analog for this trip and only brought my Nikon F and a whole bunch of film. Leaving my dslr back at home was so scary at first, and my anxiety for not capturing any good pics from or holiday together shot through the roof. BUT, the rolls of film came back perfect and I absolutely love love love all the feels in every single one of them. I´ve split the pics in to three posts – I hope you enjoy them ♥
view from our lovely apartment on the busy Długa street. We lucked out big time on AirBnb with this apartment which I would highly recommend you check out if your are planning a stay in Gdansk. It is central, close to just about everything, great hosts and provides a lovely atmosphere from the street artists playing the accordion just down below. And the window pane is perfect for people spotting which is a good enough reason on its own.
We climbed the manymanymany steps to the top of the St. Mary´s Church (or the Bazylika Mariacka in Polish) and cooled off on the top to an amazing view of the old city. There we took a moment to take selfies and posies and slightly blurry family shots that I will cherish and grin at forever.
After a while we decided that it would be a good idéa to let our shaky legs take us back down the stairs and enjoy some refreshments. Luckily the church is located on the street called Piwna – which translates to «the beer street». How utterly convenient.
Just a quick observation; people seem to be SO MUCH MORE comfortable in front of an slr versus a dslr. Either that, or people are getting that used to me always taking their pics that they kind of just.. «meh, you again» and get on with their business.
Can you spot the mafiosa?
That´s it for part one! I think I will probably be posting part two already tomorrow, so make sure to surf by again if this kind of thing interests you at all, haha!
Ta-ta now. Take care! ♥
